I’ve wanted an RX8 ever since they came out in 2004. I’ve been constantly looking them up and they keep getting cheaper and cheaper. I know they have some issues but you can’t even buy a Turbo RX7 FC for what these are selling for.
This !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with 21,197kms (13,248 miles) is selling for a paltry $12,987.
$13K for a MINT low mileage example is crazy considering these were over 40K new in Canada.
If you went to a little bit higher mileage ~60,000-70,000kms (~37,000-44,000 miles) you can easily find them for under 10K.
Hell this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (60,000 miles) is only $7K
Once my daily is paid off I think I’ll have to pick one of these up as my weekend toy.

I’ve always thought they were cool, but there have always been cars that I would rather get.

It’s definitely on my short list when it comes time to replace the slobalt

If you don’t have any problems with changing oil very often then go for it.

Somebody was selling one with a THPTPPTPTB’ed motor here in my town for like $4k a while back. They should remain affordable in that state for some time to come.

for $7K I can’t think of anything better. What would be better but in equally good condition as a weekend toy?

theyre basically free here in the UK.

I’ve driven an RX8 before, however briefly. Power delivery felt just like my V6 Accord.

they aren’t issues, those are features! mazda knows that the true gear head likes to turn a wrench.. so they built a “enthusiast” car with build in features that require your attention.

To be fair, I never really approach it from the “weekend toy” point of view, seeing as I’d be lucky enough to fit one car in my garage.

I worked with a guy who had one. He clocked over 100k with it, he said it never gave him any trouble, but he had to add oil almost every fill up. He said that it burnt oil like that since he bought it, I’m not sure if it was new or used.

Yeah I’ve seem some with a dsjfhaskjfv’d motor for as little a $2K and I’m talking for a real clean one with good paint and not dented to shit.
There is one for sale locally not for $1500 but it really was terrible you can do much better than this one for just a little bit more.

Same. The only problem is if you're willing to deal with issues there is a host of other cars that I'd prefer

I found a runner that needed a fair bt of work ( they all do) for £450. So many are guns be engine swapped and used for drifting soon.

I seen one for sale with 191,000kms (119,000miles)but I don’t know if that is on the original motor or not.
If I could get 60,000 kms (36,000 miles) out of it over the next 5 years I would think I got my monies worth and anything more than that would be a bonus.

You know, it sounds like your comfortable with and fully understand the reliability issues. I hope you also know there isn’t much resale value.
That all being understood, go for it and get the car you want.

The more I think about it I would probably go with the $7,000 60,000 mile one and if she blows sometimes down the line I’d swap in a motor of something else(not an LS) in there.

I hear they just released a full engine/trans kit of the Ford Coyote 5.0 motor. It can be had in stick or auto. And by full kit I mean all electronics, everything.
I wonder if it would fit.

Less than a V6 accord, I was disjointed.

I want one...and when it breaks down on me I will probably cry and regret my decision

I love everything about the RX-8 but it’s motor. I know I will burn in hell for saying that but if Mazda had put their turbo MZR piston motor in that car it would have torque and maybe just a bit more reliability.

anything can fit if you put your mind to it. I was thinking more along the lines of.
or ideally

I’ll probably (read: Most likely) do the very same thing.

I agree. The car (other that the motor) is literally my ideal vehicle. I LOVE the look,I love that it’s a true 4 seater,I love that it has near perfect 52/48 weight distribution, I love that it’s light weight.
This car with a better heart would be the PERFECT car.

there was one in the parking lot of my apt complex that interrupted my lunch reving its motor to try to jump start a genesis. I opened my door and enjoyed the music while I ate.

FYI Mazda extended the powertrain warranty on 2004 to 2008 RX-8s to eight years or 100,000 miles. So, some 2008s actually still have a powertrain warranty. I have a friend who swears by rotaries and has owned more than I can count. He's very experienced on working on them and identifying issues, though. Comes from experience he says.

I thought these were basically free?
This is one car that I’ve just never been able to get down with. I just hate the way they look. I’m a Mazda fan, but I just can’t RX-8.

That’s a terrible idea!
[looks up Allroads on craigslist]

Yes I knew that but most of them are a) either out of that warranty or B) even if they still have it with my luck the motor will blow Jan 1st 2017 and the warranty won’t matter.

did you rev it out at all? there is nothing until 6k min power wise
